The Great Dayton Ohio Flood of 1913 - 100th Anniversary Edition 1913 - 2013
Description:
A pictorial history of the Great Dayton Ohio Flood of 1913. Illustrated in color and black and white with over 100 original photographs from private collections, historical societies, and the DELCO Corporation, many published here for the first time! Also includes exciting flood narratives from original sources. DELCO (Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company) was founded by Charles Kettering. He and his company built the first electric starter for automobiles. The DELCO company was located in the heart of the Dayton downtown district and bore the brunt of the flood waters. After the flood, DELCO published a book titled "Dayton - A Story of the Great Flood as Seen from the DELCO Factory". We obtained the original photographs used in that book, along with 80 additional photos from DELCO that were not used in the book! They had been discarded by DELCO back in the 1950's and we salvaged by an employee. We have also included in our book a history of DELCO from it's beginnings to 1949. The binding is a 1/2" "U" shaped steel UNIBIND binding, which makes a lasting binding and allows for libraries to place information on the spine for shelving display. The UNIBIND binding color matches the red in the cover of the book. The front and back covers are illustrated in full color. They are printed on heavy cardstock, giving them a hardback feel. We also have a limited edition printing of this book. It contains an original relic that survived the flood! The limited edition has a printing of only 200 copies!
