The devastation wrought by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita led many to wonder if New Orleans would ever recover its unique musical culture. Those concerns have been assuaged to the extent that the city now rivals New York City as the country's leading center for live jazz. Jacobsen takes a comprehensive look at the entirety of the New Orleans jazz scene as the 21st century unfolds and shows that there is more to it than just traditional jazz.
