Description:
A World War II Veteran was cleaning his garage when he found his old war chest. He had not opened it since he sent it home from Europe in 1945. The veteran was a Major in the Rangers and had seen action in Europe through the War. He was also a veteran of the Korean conflict. Major Bradford Lee examined the contents of the war chest and after sorting through many items and the memories they stir up, he finds a bottle that had been given to him by a beautiful Gypsy girl. The bottle contained a brew that the Gypsy had told him would cast a curse on his enemies. The Major is joined by his neighbor’s dog, Kojack. Kojack a mixed German Sheperd breed had a habit of visiting the Major whenever he could. The two had formed a strong friendship and the Major looked forward to visits by his neighbor’s dog.
During the visit the bottle of brew is broken and spills on the floor. Both the Major and the dog are exposed to the brew and suffer a physical alteration to their bodies and there is a confrontation between the two ending in the Major shooting the dog in moment of panic. Thinking that he has killed the dog the major retreats into his home to treat a wound and on his return he finds that the dog has vanished.
The exposure to the brew has triggered a change in the Major and he become a dangerous man and soon finds himself involved in a killing that sets the police on his trail. A small tin of white pills was with the bottle of brew and the gypsy had told him it was a temporary cure that served as a counteractive concoction to offset the symptoms of the brew. He realizes that he needs to find a cure to counter act the reaction caused by the brew. The Major sets out in an attempt to get to Europe to try to locate the gypsy or her family to try to find a permanent cure.
Kojack has been affected much like the Major and the brew has triggered reactions in him that drives him to seek revenge on the Major for shooting him. The dog is trapped in a twisted emotion that both drive him to seek the Major for his devotion to him and also for the desire for revenge. Kojack tracks the Major as they both travel across America from California to Louisiana and then across the Atlantic Ocean aboard a container ship and to the shores of France where the Major takes up his search for the Gypsy girl and a cure.
Along the way both the Major and the Kojack pick up characters who accompany them. These strangers are face with the horrible truth about their traveling companions and have to make the decision to abandon them or continue on with them to assist them with their quest.
