Gwendolyn Stevens beautifully written memoire about the remarkable life of Dr. Sheldon Gardner is set in a parallel universe, Heaven, where Dr. Gardner spends several Saturday s with God discussing significant events in his life. Many of us grow up in less than desirable circumstances. Some of us, either through illness or accident, wake up less able bodied than we were the day before. Dr. Sheldon Gardner experienced both. Growing up Jewish in an Italian ghetto outside of Boston, Sheldon learned about discrimination early; as a six-year-old he was molested by pre-teen Irish thugs in a park. At eleven, when he contracted Bulbar Polio, he quickly learned not to take life for granted, because it can change in the blink of an eye.
