Sergeant Swanson

Called to the duty of serving his country in time of war, a 20 year-old Vernon E. Swanson was drafted and enlisted in the U.S. Army; inducted at Fort Dodge, Iowa in September 1943. Soon he would embark on a crowded troop train through St. Louis bound for Georgia and a war-torn world beyond. Thus begins this story as told by one man, in his own words. It is a story true from his heart as he wrote letters during World War II to his close-knit family and that special person he had found in his life by luck and happenstance, Audrey J. Lundahl.
