COINTELPRO and Other Intelligence Activities Targeting Americans, 1940 - 1975, Volume 1

This two-volume reprint of Book III of the Church Committee's Final Report documents the FBI's harassment campaign against Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and other black leaders. The FBI's COINTELPRO program of electronic surveillance, 'black bag jobs,' mail opening, and more was matched by programs in other intelligence agencies laid out in this report. These include the CIA's CHAOS, MERRIMAC, and RESISTANCE programs, the NSA's SHAMROCK program, the Nixon White House's aborted 'Huston Plan', domestic surveillance by the military, and more.
