Modern Parables: Living in the Kingdom of God DVD Set

Modern Parables is an original Bible study curriculum designed for people who like movies. It is the first in a planned series of film-driven studies on the parables. The films are uniquely designed to parallel the original parable and thereby drive the viewer back toward the Biblical text.

The 12-lesson study (with 6 additional lessons on cinema and theology) uses short dramatic films that explain Jesus parables using the particular strength of the cinematic medium. In other words, just watching the films helps teach the historical, grammatical, contextual and interpretive elements in the parables. Modern Parables lets people grasp the parables at an immediate, gut level. This emotional immediacy enables them to engage the Bible in a powerful and compelling new way.

This set includes 3 DVDs, 1 Audio Teacher Prep CD, a Teacher's Guide, and Student Book.

The DVDs include 6 parable films and 6 application videos for 12 complete lessons. Parables included: Hidden Treasure, Samaritan, The Shrewd Manager, The Widow & Judge, The Sower, and Prodigal Sons.

The DVDs also include 6 director's commentaries that can be used with material in the Teacher's Guide to teach 6 additional lessons on Cinematic Theology.

The Audio Prep CD includes 12 overview tracks (5 minutes each) that review each lesson before teaching the class.

The wire-bound Teacher's Guide includes two introductory chapters on the parables, twelve detailed teacher's notes for teaching each class, and six lessons on Cinematic Theology. (108p.)

The Student Book includes twelve in-depth chapters on the parables. (200p.)

The entire set provides a complete class for teachers with all the necessary materials. All you need to bring is a DVD player, TV and students. The study has been designed by a teacher for teachers. It has a modular design to it so that you can teach some of the lessons or all of them.
