On a beautiful day in August 2003, Wilfred Moore was cutting wood on his Vermont farm when a young ruffed grouse showed up to keep him company. A few days later, Wil's wife, Vivian, accompanied her husband, camera at the ready, to witness the antics of this wild bird. Little did Vivian know that this meetings was the start of an unusual and touching friendship with the ruffed grouse that she named Paddy. Vivian Miller Moore grew up on a farm in Pomfret, Vermont. When she married, she moved down the road to her husband's ancestral farm in nearby Sharon, Vermont where she devotes herself to writing and the preservation of rural ways of life.
