A Life of Divine Encounters
Description:
Review\n"Fred and Ruth have been witnesses to, and influencers of, some of the most significant kingdom movements from the mid-twentieth century until today.... Theirs is a story of faithfulness in action."
-Dr. Michael J. Beals, President of Vanguard University\n"When I think of [Fred and Ruth's] kingdom impact over the decades, I realize it is immeasurable--both for its vastness and for its unknowability. They want no credit. They only want revival. God alone sees the treasures they have laid up in heaven over their lifetime."
-Barry H. Corey, President of Biola University and author of Make the Most of It: A Guide to Loving Your College Years and Love Kindness: Discover the Power of a Forgotten Christian Virtue.\n"Though I've known and sat under some of the greatest teachers in my lifetime...none have taught me more about Jesus and how to live humbly and faithfully than Fred and Ruth. They look for Jesus every day. They remind me of my friend in heaven, Corrie ten Boom."
-Kenn Gulliksen, founder of the Vineyard\n"[Fred and Ruth] have an incredible testimony and legacy and have influenced some of the biggest ministries in the last sixty years--always choosing the low road, preferring to stay in the background, and now allowing anyone's fingerprints but Jesus's on it. They are an example for us all of what it looks like to fight the good fight and finish the race well."
-John Ruttkay, friend and missionary\nOne man's journey from skepticism to faith, the fearless woman who helps get him there, and their inspiring missional life together, as they are led by the power of God to transform lives—one divine encounter at a time.
For the greater part of his early life, Fred Waugh disdained religion. His business was his life. Ruth, his uncompromising Christian wife, on the other hand, never gave up hope that her husband would someday find God. Then, on an around-the-world trip that culminates in the Garden Tomb in Jerusalem, Fred has a personal encounter with the living God that changes his life forever, answering the decades-long prayer of his steadfast wife.
Now, at ninety-eight, Fred and Ruth are living witnesses and participants of many historic church movements, from Aimee Semple McPherson and the Pentecostal and Holiness movements, to Billy Graham, Kathryn Kuhlman, and the charismatic movement; they also have close ties to Lonnie Frisbee and the radical Jesus People movement. They have completely dedicated their lives to helping others experience the reality of the Holy Spirit and, in so doing, have become spiritual parents to a multitude of youth, having contributed to a number of Christian universities, including Oral Roberts University, Biola, and Vanguard.
A Life of Divine Encounters is the story of remarkable humility, of a couple’s behind-the-scenes, yet significant place in church history, and, most of all, of enduring love. Their life story will encourage you to believe in the unbelievable and to expect the unexpected as you give your heart over fully to the love and call of God on your life.
