THE ZOO SAVERS could be the lightning rod for a new generation of environmentalists. Eddie Strong lives right across the street from the Palmer Park Zoo. Starting at an early age his parents began taking him to the zoo. Naturally, as he grew older and more familiar with the inhabitants and staff of the zoo, he wanted to be able to go by himself. But according to the rules he was just too young. A compromise is reached by empowering Eddie to start a club for like minded children. The Zoo For Kids Club, which quickly came to be known as the Zoofers, would be instrumental in spreading the word about all the new and exciting things taking place at the zoo. When Eddie, through a nervous habit of counting things, discovers missing zoo dwellers, the Zoofers embark on a dual mission. Without overlooking their first goal of educating the public on the need to preserve an environment where wildlife can co-exist with people, the Zoofers also undertake to catch the apparent thieves who are stealing rare birds and exotic monkeys from the zoo. The story unfolds in a heartwarming tale of kids joining forces to achieve their goals. Playing and working together, they do exactly what they set out to do and in the process win over many of their elders at least one of whom considers the zoo a complete and total nuisance. THE ZOO SAVERS is a good read, both educational and entertaining, with a happy and satisfying conclusion.
