Washburn is part of the political fiction trilogy Homefront. US Senator Sam Washburn writes the book of his life, by his life, for his life. He tries to keep it simple and tell it straight, the prosaic story of his past in his memoir, An American Life. He writes to defend himself from the accusations of massacre leveled against him regarding the circumstances of his time as a soldier in Vietnam.
