The Heroin Diaries: Little Stories to Understand Why

This collection of poetry reflects on the experiences of a clinician moonlighting in the county jail who came to love her patients: addicts, violent criminals ... survivors. Dr Dowd's evolution informs the reality of the heroin crisis exploding in our country. In her efforts to learn how to address the problems of a few patients, Dr Dowd searches for answers of what to do. The collection arises from the response: I don't know. With the haunting photographs by Joanne Arnold, the poems of Dr Dowd describe a brutal and harsh world filled with lessons we need to learn.
