Iowa Great Lakes Recording Company
Description:
Iowa Great Lakes Recording Company, Located in Milford, Iowa was one of the first professional recording studios established in the upper Midwest. The studio was furnished with equipment similar to that used in other recording studios throughout the United states in that era, including an Ampex three-track recording machine. In July, 1965, just weeks after IGL Recording Company opened for business, Dee Jay and the Runaways recorded nine songs including “Peter Rabbit.” A few months later, “Peter Rabbit” became a regional hit and the song was leased to Mercury Records for national distribution. When “Peter Rabbit” became a national hit, bands and individuals from Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and other states flocked to IGL Recording Company to try to capture some of that same magic. This book describes the history and musical contributions of Iowa Great Lakes Recording Company. More than that, the book is a tribute to the many talented musicians and singers who created musical magic at IGL Recording Company and to their musical legacy that lives on.
