Complete Delaware Roll Of 1898
Description:
This book contains transcribed records of a roll, or census taken in 1898 in Cherokee Indian Territory of the resident Delaware Indians. Their names were copied from an original roll book belonging to Cornelius Wilson, which was loaned to the Herbert Barber family in California, descendants of Howard Ketchum (a Delaware ancestor). This is a unique and important compilation, and will surely assist anyone who is interested in Native Delaware (or Lenni Lenape) ancestry, or anyone attempting to prove such ancestry. This tribe, originally inhabitants of the New Jersey and New York areas, were eventually forced west to Upstate New York, Canada, and Oklahoma, among other locales. These records were laboriously copied by Mr. Bowen, an accomplished and experienced transcriber of Native material, and are accurate and complete. Original Native names are used in many cases, spelled phonetically. We are proud to list this work among those that should be in the libraries of anyone seriously undertaking Native research.
