Littlejohn recounts the old days when the system allowed rouge attorneys from other states to practice law in South Carolina. He recalls the pervasive use of the dock, capital punishment for attempted rape and the 11 times that he swore an oath he would not engage in a duel during his term of office. He was present when women were first accepted into the ranks of lawyers and, in the twenty-first century, was instrumental in ensuring the appointment of the first female supreme court chief justice.
