Description:

The Stowaway On The Titanic is written in the first person voice of Grandpa Leroy, a black New York Lawyer. He recounts how his boyhood friend, Mark, offered to sneak him aboard the Titanic. The orphaned boys believed that if Leroy could get to America, he would have a better chance to be adopted. They are surprised when they learn that Negroes are not allowed on the ship. Their friendship grows stronger in the face of adult hostilities and the disaster. Author's notes are added. They provide an overview of what life was like for Blacks in England and New York City prior to the Titanic tragedy. There is also information about the owners of the Titanic and little known facts about the ship and the tragedy.
