Le Dernier Chouan

Originally published in 1829, Le Dernier Chouan ou la Bretagne en 1800 is the first novel to which Balzac signed his own name. It is a fast-moving historical adventure novel dealing with the Breton insurgency against the government forces in post-Revolutionary France. The text of this edition is that published by Balzac in 1829: it is the first time that the novel has been re-published in this version and under its original title.
