Grandpa and the Pirate

"Grandpa and the Pirate" is a story of a ten year old boy, Dickey Denton, and his grandfather, who embark on a fishing trip. During a storm, they are forced to beach their boat on a deserted island, where Dickey learns a number of valuable lessons about life and survival.

Grandpa teaches Dickey how to build a shelter and make a fire to keep warm. To calm Dickey’s fears, he tells a story of how the island got its name. The exciting tale is about an English pirate and his ship, "The Lucky Lady," that was lost at sea.

Dickey listens to how the pirate still walks the island at night searching for his lost crew, while helping others who may be lost or in need. His own fear mixed with his vivid imagination serve as an embellishment to the real adventure he and his Grandpa are experiencing during the dangerous storm.

As he falls into a fitful sleep, Dickey weaves a wondrous dream with images from his Grandpa’s storytelling. Miraculously, the next morming they are rescued. But only Dickey knows the truth of how it came to be.
