Journey from the Han River
Description:
During the Korean War, Sue's village changes hands often. She escapes gang-rape, then leads her fellow villagers in carving a cow from a frozen river to stave off hunger. As she deals with the strains of family, poverty, and raising a son, the Communists threaten her life. She falls in love with an American soldier who leaves her, then another who brings her back to his home in Ohio in the 1960s. Her life here includes politics, love triangles, and plenty of sadness and joy. This is an immigrants experience magnified by the history of a marriage and the will of a determined woman. Long before they reach Sue's current life in Las Vegas, readers will have found her to be their new best friend.
