Paid in Full

Protagonist, Harry Caine, a licensed California private investigator, closes his one-man agency in Silicon Valley to try a new way of life. After building a getaway boat, he departs for the Caribbean Islands and hopes never to look back.

One the way south, a boating accident requires repairs but Harry lacks the money to pay the bill. An uncrupulous boat-yard controller, exiled from his family's crime business in New Jersey, offers Harry a job delivering five, seemingly ordinary, boxes from Daytona Beach to a Silicon Valley scientist/inventor.

Harry soon discovers the contents of the boxes, gets caught up in this compelling coast-to-coast mystery and finds himself back in the business.
