...Marty Stevens caught a glimpse of her own reflection in the plate glass window. Deep down, despite her bravado, she knew people saw her as second-rate trash, and she wore the part to perfection: too much make-up, too little underwear, too few manners, and absolutely zero social graces. She was, in truth, the classic Webster definition of a sycophant: one who seeks to gain acceptability by flattering wealthy or influential people. She also had an economy of scale: why work your ass off for years to get what you want when you can steal it from someone else who has already done that...particularly when she had such easy pawns to manipulate. One fully intact male ego at mid-life and only a few obstacles to crush. Spoiled brats and uppity bitches everyone of them! So they had the degrees and the pedigrees, so what? They didn't deserve to stand between her and the life she so desperately craved and she solemnly vowed they wouldn't...not for long. She spent more time with Dan than anyone, and he was such a sucker for productivity and voluntarily putting in long hours.
