Katie's Pond

"Katie's Pond" is a children's book, designed to introduce younger children (ages preschool through second grade) to the environment around them.

The book chronicles a walk taken by "Katie," and her second grade classmates, around a local pond which sits across the street from their elementary school. Guided by their teacher, the class discovers and observes white swans, blackbirds in flight, turtles, and other animals.

They examine pine needles, white oaks, cattails and milkweeds, and in general take in the sights, sounds, and even smells of the nature that surrounds them.

Every other page contains water-color illustrations of the various plant and animal life observed by the class.
