Strategic Asia 2002-03: Asian Aftershocks

Asian Aftershocks assesses how the September 11 terrorist attacks and their aftermath have changed the distribution of power in the region, the strategies that states pursue, and the patterns of interaction that have developed among them. The book includes chapters on U.S. policy toward Asia (Aaron Friedberg), China (Thomas Christensen), Japan (Eric Heginbotham and Richard Samuels), Korea (Nicholas Eberstadt), Russia (William Wohlforth), Central Asia (Martha Brill Olcott), South Asia (Stephen Cohen), Southeast Asia (Sheldon Simon), and a special study on Islam and Asian Security (Robert Hefner), as well as fourteen pages of statistical indicators. The Strategic Asia Program at The National Bureau of Asian Research is a major ongoing research initiative that draws together top Asian specialists and international relations experts to assess the changing strategic environment in the Asia Pacific. The Strategic Asia Program transcends traditional estimates of military balance by incorporation economic, political, and demographic data and by focusing on the strategies and perceptions that drive policy in the region.
