Mud Hen Memories

Local authors and long time Mud Hen fans Jerry DeBruin and John O’Brien with Mud Hen Historian John Husman have finalized Mud Hen Memories, a lasting keepsake of baseball experiences shared in the Lucas County Recreation Center aptly renamed Ned Skeldon Stadium in 1988. This 256 page book provides fans with an in-depth history of baseball in Toledo from 1883 to the present with particular emphasis on the years 1965 – 2000.

Included are year by year highlights, events, seasonal rosters, and statistics. Of particular interest are the chapters "Who’s Who in Mud Hen History" which provide individual profiles of hundreds of former Mud Hen players.

Also included is "Voices From the Past" which provides fans with copies of actual letters written by former Mud Hens who reflect on their experiences and tell what it was like to play as a Mud Hen in the old stadium. Complete year by year rosters of players, coaches and managers along with all-time records are included.

The authors firmly believe that the book will provide Mud Hen fans with a lasting record of experiences shared in the old stadium prior to the Hens moving to their new downtown stadium in 2002.
