It is what inspired us to publish our first edition of this guide five years ago. Well, the renaissance continues. Wonderful, new Irish pubs continue to pop up around our beloved city. Pubs of such quality that they quickly earn their place alongside the old, familiar favorites. That's why it was time to update our guide with a new edition. Another reason for this new edition is that we wanted to spread our wings a bit. So we reached up into Southern New Hampshire, out as far as Worcester, and down to Cape Cod to pub together the most comprehensive guide possible for you Irish pub afficionados. Boston is often called the capital of Irish America because of its thriving Irish community, which dates back to colonial times. Boston was the destination for more than 100,000 Irish during the Great Famine of 1845-1850. The Famine Generation moved forward in Boston, defining their place in its society.
