No wonder the Canadian writer, Nellie McLung could claim in her autobiography that dinner conversation in Canada often involved discussing the story of what happened to the Donnelly family. This family, residents of Biddulph township, eighteen miles north of London, Ontario, were slain "by their neighbours in disguise" not long after midnight on 4 February 1880.
