Dr. Thomas Wynne's Legacy
Description:
From Chapter One: Dr. Thomas Wynne's family comes from a very long line of distinguished and notable Ancestors. His immediate line comes from Wales. Four generations earlier his 3rd great-grandfather Harri Wynne ap Cynwrig finds himself married to a English girl Alis Thelwal ferch Simmwnd ferch David Thelwall. Her father was Simmwnd [Symon] Thelwall, Esq. of Plas-y-Ward. These two people meld the Welsh and English lines we descend from. Harri Wynne ap Cywrig can be found under many spellings example Harri Wynne ap Cynric or Henry ap Kenrick ap Ithel. Unlike the English, Welsh people did not generally adopt the use of static or fixed surnames until nearly the 18th Century. Historically, the Welsh practiced a naming system known as "patronymics," which means the child's surname is the father's given name. For example, John Morris could be the son of Morris Rhys, who was the son of Rhys James.
