The first line: Air defense in the Northeast, 1952-1960
Description:
The First Line is unique in many respects as a look into the operations of the Air Defense Command during the 1950's when it was being set up, and equipped with new relatively untested all-weather interceptors, starting with P-47's and P-51's and progressing through P-80's, F-86's, F-89's, F-94's, F-101's, F-102's and F-106's. All in ten years. It was a time of serious concern about Cold War threats and real urgency to set up defenses.
And it was a time of adventure and occasional tragedy. The book includes input from many pilots and radar operators who were in the squadrons it the Northeast including those at Dow AFB, Ethan Allen AFB, Griffiss AFB and Presque Isle AFB, as well as hundreds of photos and original color artwork.
These books are brand new, still in shrink wrap, and from the writer's original archives.
