Memories of My Father, Joyce Kilmer

This book is a milestone in the history of American Literature. It provides background for one of the world's most famous poems: TREES, written 83 years ago by (Alfred) Joyce Kilmer. The book's author, Kenton Kilmer, was 9 years old in 1918 when his father, Sgt. Joyce Kilmer, was struck down by a sniper's bullet in France, while serving with the famous FIGHTING 69TH in World War I. Although only 31 at the time of his death, Joyce Kilmer was already a leading poet, essayist & journalist for the New York Times. The book's author's REMEMBRANCES are complemented by 37 of Joyce Kilmer's poems including TREES, THE HOUSE WITH NOBODY IN IT, DAVE LILLY & ROUGE BOUQUET. 20 poems by Joyce Kilmer's wife, Aline Kilmer, his original hand-written version of TREES, 25 pages of pictures, & 108 pages of letters written by the poet to his parents are also included.
