The Origin of Once Upon A Hilltop
An archaelogical excavation made in late 1966 at the Santa Ana Church in Manila sparked a literary interest from the author who helped clean and patch up bones and pottery. When the section containing the skeleton of a child was found in association with that of a dog, Ms. Escoda decided to weave a fantasy around it. Her story won 2nd prize in the 1968 Pamana Children's Storywriting Contest.
