A Dream Fulfilled: The Van Raalte Sculpture in Centennial Park

The story of the long effort in Holland, Michigan to erect a statue of Dr. Albertus C. Van Raalte, the city's founder, who arrived in the area in 1847. The effort began at the 75th anniversary, when a committee engaged the services of the Chicago sculptor Leonard Crunelle. His plans were lost, however, and in 1996, the city commissioned a foundry to prepare a new maquette. The book contains many photos of the production and installation of the statue, as well as a timeline and a lengthy biography of Van Raalte.
