At over 500,000 items, the Pauling Papers stand as among the largest personal archives in the world. He remains history's only recipient of two unshared Nobel prizes - the first for his landmark research on the nature of the chemical bond (1954) and the second for his tireless activism in opposition to above-ground nuclear testing (1962).
