The Nineteenth-Century American Collector: A Rhode Island Perspective

This volume considers the anthropological collection of a small 19th-century museum from the perspective of the collecting preferences of four early collectors, and their "19th-century curio cabinets" of archaeological and ethnological objects. High-quality photographs and illustrations highlight this early museum collection, which is world-wide in scope, and include numerous important ethnological and archaeological objects from the Northeast, Great Plains and Western United States, Paleolithic Europe, Philippines and Pacific region, and Ur III cuneiform economic tablet from Sumer.
