Jim Pomeroy <- A Retrospective

Despite his premature death in 1992, Jim Pomeroy remains a luminary in the world of contemporary artists. Pomeroy's work, which integrates a wide range of styles and media, includes performance, video, installation, sculpture, sound art, photography, and critical writing. Using a peculiar brand of humor, his work questions assumptions about political systems, technology, popular culture, and common knowledge through a bric-a-brac of materials and homemade artifacts integrated into a style that was uniquely his own. The catologue intends to present a discussion of Pomeroys work, including contributions from Paul DeMarinis, critic and curator Timothy Druckrey, artist Jim Melchert, Susan Miller, and author Constance Penley. The catalog includes a pair of 3D glasses to view a number of the color and black & white reproductions of Jims photography, performance, video, and installation works. Designed by Michael Abbink and Joshua Distler, the catalog reads back-to-front and is filled with the artists brand of irony, humor, and political sarcasm.
