Description:
THE GOOD DOCTORS is less parochial than the previous two veterinary histories penned by Ray Thompson. Originally, the book was to relate only the history of the profession in Maryland and, in particular, the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association which is celebrating its 100th year as a professional association in 1985-1986. Ture, there is a lot in the book about Maryland veterinarians and the roles they have played in shaping the profession in the United States. But Thompson has gone beyond the geographical boundaries of the Free State to trace, in highly readable style, the development of veterinary medicine in North America from colonial times to today. He has even reached into Europe to give the reader a better understanding of the reasons for a branch of medicine that, surprising to most people, serve both animal and human populations. Ray Thomas was executive director of both the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association and the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association for many years.
