The Embers of Michael: An Historical Epic
Description:
Michael Buk escaped Nazi bullets, the burning ghetto, the torched bodies of Uncle Avram & of the Catholic priest Sawicki & became a sapper in the ranks of the partisans of the Russian Colonel Medvedev. Michael blew up the strategic bridge in Zdolbunovo, a spectacular event. Following liberation, he was jailed by the Polish security. Later he escaped to Austria, where he finished medicine & found his beloved Sonia, the partisan nurse. Their daughter, Laura, married the physician Ahmed Girey, the son of a Tartar prince, responsible for the death of Laura's grandfather. Their love was shortlasting. During a marital fight, Ahmed accidentally killed their little son. Depressed, Laura tried to commit suicide. A miraculous, spellbinding recovery brought her back to a happy life in Israel, where she built her new family. Michael's character did not cave in during the Holocaust, on the battlefield, in the communist jail & after the loss of his grandson. He found through science the way to God, to serenity & spiritual victory. His drama unfolds within the resonance of history woven by fire, blood, cruelty, hopelessness, but also by love, heroism & nobility.
