The Texas and Pacific Railway: Super Power to Streamliners, 1925-1975

Fascinating story of the transformation of the Texas & Pacific from 1925 onwards, when it became the first major carrier to embrace the high-horsepower steam locomotives of the Lima Locomotive Co. T&P added another pair of driving wheels, creating the first 2-10-4 wheel arrangement (which was called the Texas type in its honor) -- these 70 locomotives became the T&P trademark for over twenty-five years. In 1953, T&P embraced another form of super-power when it completely dieselized its system with EMD diesel-electric locomotives. The romance and thrill of the Texas types and their accompanying 4-8-2 Mountain types is captured in the photos that cover almost every page.
