The vernacular poetical tradition in Ulster(N.Ireland) was part of a much broader literary movement focussed in Scotland and culminating in the work of Robert Burns at the end of the eighteenth century. The main era of publication was from c.1790 to c. 1840,in the immediate wake of Burns' first edition of 1786.Written in the lowland scots (Lallans)common language of the Ulster Poets, this book is for the serious scholar interested in the life and times of the day, giving as it does the peasants eye view of the local life and customs, attitudes to religion ,politics, and such matters. Some , nearly all , of the original volumes are extremely rare, and were to be only found in the larger scholary libraries.This first edition paperback edition is in very limited supply.
