Description:
The National Museums of Scotland's collection of Italian maiolica (tin-glazed earthenware) dates from the 15th to the early 20th century and includes examples by masters of Renaissance maiolica, such as five pieces from a service painted by Nicola da Urbino. This book discusses the history and production of maiolica and represents all the leading workshops and centres of production. Each entry is illustrated by one or more photographs and the introduction traces an outline of developments in shape, style and painting. Sources of inspiration to Renaissance artists are also discussed.
