He was a prolific writer whose plays range from high-spirited comedies to plays based on serious Old Testament stories. He was noted both for his malicious wit and his mastery of historical interpretation.\nLaurence Boswell began his career as an Assistant Director at The Royal Shakespeare Company, and until recently was Artistic Director of the Gate Theatre in London.
