This is the first detailed survey of eprouvettes (gunpowder-testers) ever attempted in a single volume. The core of the book is an illustrated survey of types; it also contains a survey of gunpowder testing through the ages, a suggested typology for eprouvettes, and experimental data based on firings carried out by the author. The volume is completed by a series of appendices, including a listing of over 700 eprouvettes.
