King Philip's War

First published in 1906, this work remains the central, indispensable, and most comprehensive study of New England in the years 1675 and 1676 and how the new colonists were forced into cooperative union in the face of the challenges of the Indians. The book was the first to draw on contemporary correspondence between the governors and military, religious, and other leaders of the time in order to identify the principal participants, especially the Indian leaders, and present a chronological history of the events and their outcome.
