ADVP-1: Energy Conscious Architecture

This monograph is the first in a series in the NCARB Professional Development Program (PDP). The purpose of this monograph is to present a comprehensive view of energy-conscious architecture. It will address technical and institutional issues, and suggest design methodology and appropriate tools. For every case introduced here, however, there are many alternatives. Some may be applicable to a specific site or particular micro-climate. Some cases may ne interchangeable, but in all cases the object is to suggest an approach, and attitude, a way of applying the architectural process to produce buildings that make optimal use of the inevitable energy demands inherent in their design, construction and operation.
