Life Within Limits
Description:
Spurred by patriotism, Eleanor (Jerry) Stone joined the Women's Army Corps in March 1944, and spent two years as a telephone operator at a top-secret laboratory in Los Alamos. Her glimpses of everyday life reveal the intensity of work in the laboratory, the sociability of the Tech area PX, the peculiaities of an ever-expanding telephone system, adventures with a trumpet-playing soldier (Arno Roensch, whom she later married), and relationships with scientists, military personnel, and others. Surrounded by fences, guards, and secrecy, she lived a "Life Within Limits." Personal photographs, and documents enhance this story of life during World war II.
