The 2-6-6-2 compound articulated "Mallet" type locomotive comprised the largest element of C&O's steam motive power fleet. Although initially used for mainline traffic, they were ultimately confined to branch line mine shifter operations up until the end of steam. The first came in 1910 and the last in 1949.
