Poetry. THE LOWELL POEMS is the sixth book of poetry from Tom Sexton, the former Poet Laureate of Alaska from 1995-2000. Sexton returns in his writings to his boyhood home Lowell, Massachusetts. Jay McHale, associate professor of English at Salem State College writes of Sexton's poetry: "His poetic images are like jagged ice floes from glacial droppings. They are deposits along the shore, moments of reflection: ice crystals; begot of winter; gone with the spring thaw; swept downstream by the ebb and flow of time, season, and memory. Their jagged strength and life--like the narrator's--a mere illusion in the fragile, temporal reality of seasonal comings and goings."
