The species described in this guide are selected from a list compiled by the S.D. Natural Heritage Program (NHP), a cooperative effort of The Nature Conservancy and the S.D. Department of Game, Fish and Parks. The list serves as an inventory of species and communities which may be in need of protection and preservation within the state.
