Ka Mea Ho'Ala the Awakener: The Story of Henry Obookiah

He sailed around the world to New England where he educated himself and became a Christian convert. Although he died young in 1818, his example in his plea for help launch the Christian mission to Hawaii and began an important chapter in Hawaii's history. This remarkable story of the young native Hawaiian, Opel K, is told in the first person by his close friend, Thomas Hopo'o. The author, Cecily Kikukawa, has made good use of the conversation found in the memoirs of Henry and Thomas, updating the language for today's young readers.
