MacDougall, Professor and Director of Studies in the History of Landscape Architecture at Dumbarton Oaks and member of the Faculty of Arts and Science at Harvard University, is a world authority on gardens and their history. Her work has appeared in numerous scholarly publications. The foreword is written by John Train, a new York investment counsellor and an author of eight books on subject ranging from nomenclature to etymology and some two-hundred columns in "The Wall Street Journal", "Harvard", "Le Matin":, "Forbes" and other publications. The four chapters cover "Open-Air Collections", "Museum Gardens", "Aristocratic Gardens", and "Ancient Sculpture Sites". It includes a geographical index.
