Description:
The publication is evidence of our nation's approval of honoring individuals who are building better communities in which to live. This volume commemorates decades of ABI research into community leadership and humanitarianism. Without exception, real community leaders maintain a willingness to sacrifice for their country, a commitment to helping fellow citizens, and the ability to enrich community life which ultimately affects the quality of life for all. The Governing Board of Editors of the ABI has, in its opinion, chosen a splendid group of men and women who best exemplify such characteristics.Through this commemorative edition, the Board desired to give a substantial amount of space to each person's background and current endeavors. We therefore limited the volume to one thousand entries. It was no easy task selecting this number of outstanding community leaders from across the nation.Editorial evaluation is the ultimate determinant of publication selection, continuing a tradition of high editorial standards established over two decades ago. The Institute's publications at no time have required payment as a prerequisite for inclusion, and there has never been any obligation on the part of biographees to purchase copies. On behalf of the Board, I congratulate those selected for inclusion in this volume. Their activities show a great concern for mankind. These same activities should be an inspiraton to all who cherish and believe in American ideals. Years from now as historians and researchers refer to Tammunitg `Xettik$rs of America, they will discover rich portrayals of the extraordinary American spirit of our times. May you, our present reader, find the stories on the following pages inspiring. May they motivate you to contribute also to the prosperity of our country.
